Easton Cowan Unofficially Breaks Doug Gilmour's OHL Point Record; London Knights Win Streak Halted By Oshawa

When the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Easton Cowan 28th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, it was met with much criticism and questioning of what the scouting and management brass were doing.

Well, Friday night, in what was a rematch of the 2024 OHL Finals between the London Knights and the Oshawa Generals, Easton Cowan powdered home his one-timer on the powerplay at the top of the right-side faceoff circle to unofficially break Doug Gilmour's regular-season point streak record of 55.

Unfortunately for Cowan, the OHL has already said that because his point streak spans two seasons, the record he set for having a point in 56 straight regular-season games will not count toward the league records.

So, Gilmour holds the record officially, but the former Toronto Maple Leaf congratulated the budding young star via his X account.

The last regular-season game in which the Maple Leafs prospect did not record a point was on Nov. 24 against the Sudbury Wolves. His streak started the very next day when he recorded a goal and two assists in London's 9-3 thrashing over the Barrie Colts.

Cowan has been on an absolute tear during his astonishing 56-game point streak. He’s racked up an impressive 40 goals, accumulated a staggering 96 points, and recorded 31 electrifying multi-point performances.

However, the London Knights star forward had his big night come to an early close.

Early into the second frame, Knights' captain Denver Barkey hit Cowan with a pass in the middle of the ice coming through the neutral zone. Easton had his head down and was met with a heavy, completely clean hit by Oshawa defenseman Zackary Sandhu.

Both players headed straight to their respective locker rooms after the thunderous collision and would not return to the game.

Cowan already has missed a few games this season due to an injury, and any injury suffered on the play could impact his availability for Team Canada at the upcoming 2025 World Juniors.

If he is injured and held out from participating in the event, there was a player on the ice last night in the same game who should immediately take his place, and he gave everyone a show as to why, when he undressed the OHL best defenseman, Sam Dickinson, for a highlight-reel goal in the third period.

If you aren't familiar with the Michael Jordan meme, "And I took that personally." Well, Beckett Sennecke clearly is.

Since the Anaheim Ducks' third overall pick from this past NHL draft was left off Canada's preliminary camp roster for the World Juniors, he has rattled off an absolutely absurd six goals and eight assists for 14 points in his last three games.

Sennecke's dazzling insurance-marker goal and three-point effort in the Generals' revenge game led to a comeback victory over the London Knights, defeating them 5-3 after overcoming a 3-0 deficit. The Knights' win streak ends at 19 games.
