EastEnders stars reunite at British Soap Awards following Lola's tragic death scenes

EastEnders and The British Soap Awards spoilers follow.

EastEnders stars Jamie Borthwick, Emma Barton, Perry Fenwick and Danielle Harold reunited at the British Soap Awards.

Harold made her final appearance as Lola Pearce-Brown on the BBC soap last week, but reunited with her former co-stars for the ceremony, which took place last night (June 3).

Pictured with her on-screen family, who played Jay, Honey and Billy respectively, Harold won the viewer-voted award on the night for Best Leading Performer, which honoured her final scenes on the soap after Lola tragically passed away following a battle with a brain tumour.

“I can't thank [executive producer] Chris [Clenshaw] enough. It's been the best exit and I can't thank him enough for the way it's been done,” said Harold of her final scenes. “It wasn't just the exit, but Chris really did let me play out all of Lola's life as well, in the space of a very short time.

“Obviously, I've been on the show for so many years, but we'd never really dug into Lola at all over the years. To be able to find out her whole life in the space of this storyline has been pretty amazing. There have just been so many different things that I've always wondered about Lola, so to find it all out and work out all the answers, it's just been such a lovely journey,” she added.

“When we had the conversation, I felt that Lola had so much to give, but Chris said that he wanted to show that with Lola before she dies. He's definitely done that justice because I've literally been like: 'What about this?' Even the little things, he's just been so amazing at making Lola's life make sense,” she concluded.

It turned out to be a great night for EastEnders at the ceremony, with the show dominating the fan-voted categories whilst also picking up the main prize of Best British Soap. The ceremony, which was hosted by Jane McDonald, will be broadcast on ITV1 on Tuesday (June 6) at 8pm.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
