You might spend every Super Bowl Sunday in front of your television, or gathered with friends at a local restaurant, enjoying the game even if your favorite team isn’t playing.
Fletcher Cox does not understand this ritual.
The 27-year-old defensive tackle was one of several Philadelphia Eagles players to meet with media on Wednesday, and when asked for some of his favorite memories or moments from Super Bowls past, Cox said he’s never watched the game before.
“Nah, man. You know, I don’t really watch football,” he said. “Ya’ll know that.”
“Not even the Super Bowl?,” a reporter asked.
“Nah,” Cox said. “I don’t watch sports. You know that.”
The reporters, one assumes, haven’t missed a Super Bowl in years, if ever. And they couldn’t believe Cox wasn’t like them.
“Not any of them?,” another asked.
“No. I don’t watch sports,” Cox answered. “I tell you that all the time.”
Skipping mid-January NBA games makes sense. But surely, you can’t possibly skip the Super Bowl, Fletcher. It’s the Super Bowl!
Cox reportedly glared at those sitting in front of him, then declared his media session to be over.
“Alright, that’s it,” he said, smiling and leaving the room.
Which makes us wonder: if you are in the Super Bowl, you still haven’t actually watched a Super Bowl, right?
