Dwyane Wade and LeBron James' World Series bet is here, and it is very tame

LeBron James didn’t grow up a Cleveland Indians fan. Dwyane Wade might not even be a Chicago Cubs fan. LeBron grew up, by his own admission, a Yankees follower during the team’s 1990s and early-aughts heyday, while Wade’s South Side Chicago upbringing would usually tag him as a Chicago White Sox fan, but with Cleveland squaring off against the Cubs in the World Series this week both have appeared to have switched allegiances.

The two friends and former Miami Heat teammates are on different sides now, with Wade working for his hometown Bulls and James defending the championship he won with the Cavaliers earlier in 2016, but social media recently provided the bridge needed for Wade to reach out to his pal in order to suggest this relatively harmless bet:

The Cubs win, and LeBron shows up to Cleveland’s game against the Bulls in Chicago on Dec. 2 wearing full Chicago Cubs gear. From the in-stadium parking lot to the locker room. If the Indians (who took Game 1 on Tuesday) prevail? Wade pulls the same trick in Cleveland gear when the Bulls head to northern Ohio on Jan. 4.

Seems rather bland, if we’re honest. The ubiquity of throwback jerseys long ago made it so fans of specific teams could wear their opponents’ gear without fear of reprisal, and both the Cubs and Indians’ team apparel (provided we’re not talking about Cleveland’s super-racist “alternate” logo) is fetching enough for types like James or Wade to pull off.

Apparently Wade and LeBron are saving their fiercest wagering for the inevitable Yankees vs. White Sox World Series duel. One would hope, because this brand of betting has us yawning. We demand further embarrassment!
