Dustin Byfuglien gets hearing for cross-check on J.T. Miller

The Winnipeg Jets' Dustin Byfuglien will have a hearing with the NHL for his cross-check on the Rangers' J.T. Miller, the league's Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.

The hearing reportedly is 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday by phone, meaning if Byfuglien is suspended, the ban could not exceed five games.

The infraction occurred during New York's 3-2 win in Winnipeg on Tuesday night. Miller was down on the ice in front of the Jets' net when Byfuglien cross-checked him in the neck/shoulder area. No penalty was called.

Winnipeg heads into Wednesday's action with a two-point lead on Los Angeles for the second and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Both teams are idle.

Byfuglien has 45 points (18 goals) in 68 games this season and tops the Jets in penalty minutes with 122.
