Dortmund confirm major injury blow on eve of Barcelona clash
Borussia Dortmund head coach Nuri Şahin has confirmed a heavy injury blow in his squad, on the eve of the club’s showdown with Barcelona.
This comes amid confirmation that defender Niklas Süle has been condemned to an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Stopper Süle, fresh off a previous injury absence, was forced into a premature departure from Dortmund’s weekend Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 29-year-old went to ground during the 2nd-half clutching the same ankle which had previously caused him serious issues earlier this season.
Süle, in turn, was put through a round of medical tests, to ascertain the extent of the damage done.
And such tests, as alluded to above, confirmed the worst.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of BVB’s Champions League showdown with Barcelona on Wednesday, Nuri Şahin revealed that his defensive stalwart has been ruled out not only for tomorrow, but for ‘several months’:
“Unfortunately it’s not good news. He will be out for several months. He has suffered a serious injury. It’s the same injury. It’s completely unfortunate to get injured in the same place. It’s very bitter because we needed him.”
