Dorial Green-Beckham's 'Yeezy Foundation' cleats represent made-up charity

The NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” campaign in Week 13 was a rousing success and went off without a hitch. (OK, mostly without a hitch.)

Dozens on players on the 30 teams that participated last week — the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns, on bye last week, can take part Sunday — opted to wear their specialized cleats to honor and reflect charitable and philanthropic causes that were dear to each of their hearts.

But it appears at least one player took part outside the spirit of the program.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham wore special cleats, all right. They just represented a charity we hadn’t heard of.

That’s because the “Yeezy Foundation” cause doesn’t exist. Lo, these are just fancy shoes. The first run of Yeezy 350 cleats from Adidas sold out right away when they went on sale in September, although the Kanye West-endorsed kicks can be found online for $250-300 a pair. Green-Beckham certainly can fade that, so it doesn’t appear that the “charity” would be to help him recoup the costs but rather just a playful joke while other players took the #MyCauseMyCleats cause a bit more seriously.

Green-Beckham can expect a fine. Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins wore the cleats during the game and was hit for $6,000, so we imagine that Green-Beckham faces a similar cost.

We hope the cost for the cleats — which helped DGB catch four passes for 29 yards in the Eagles’ 18-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals — will be worth it to him.
