It’s been a busy calendar year for Niecy Nash. After introducing the world to Glenda Cleveland on Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Special Agent Simone Clark on ABC’s The Rookie: Feds, the multi-hyphenate is back to host her second season of Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Tuesday, 9/8c) — and she’s really hoping for some big wins this time around.

“I’m elated when they win, and I’m devastated when they lose,” Nash tells TVLine of the show’s contestants. “You get to hear the contestant’s backstory, and all you want is for them to do well. We’re coming out of a pandemic, so you want them to take home bags and bags of money. But that’s the game! You want to make sure that they’re doing everything they can to win. When they don’t, it’s devastating.”

And if you’re questioning Nash’s credentials to host a musical competition, you obviously haven’t heard her sing. The actress has showcased her vocal chops in small moments throughout her career, most recently in support of Hollywood’s current writers strike.

“They had picket line karaoke, and they asked me to start it off,” Nash recalls. “I’m like, ‘Me? I don’t even sing, but all right. Hand me the mic!'” (Editor’s note: She’s being modest. She does sing.) “The question is: Did I remember the lyrics? Answer: Barely!”

So, would Nash ever consider bringing her talents to another Fox show, say as a contestant on The Masked Singer? We’ll just leave you with her response to the suggestion of competing in a Red Devil costume (a nod to her role on Fox’s short-lived Scream Queens): “You know, I like the way you think.”
