Mitchell, 23, said he was looking forward to getting back on the floor and playing in front of the best fans in the world.

Mitchell’s entire statement, which lasted 29 seconds, read:

“What’s up, everybody. Donovan Mitchell here. Just want to say thank you guys so much for your continued support. Man, it means a lot to me. I feel fine. Things are going well. I’m just taking the proper precautions. As was told to me by the health authorities, I have to stay in isolation, so I’m solo in here playing video games all day. Can’t wait to get back out there on the floor, man. Play in front of the best fans in the world. I really miss playing in front of you guys and I’ll see you guys soon.”

Mitchell is second NBA player to test positive for coronavirus

Mitchell is the second player in the NBA to test positive for the coronavirus. He joins Rudy Gobert, whose positive test led to the suspension of the NBA season. Gobert released a statement Thursday, saying he was careless and urging others to “take this seriously.”

Other sports have experienced positive tests for coronavirus

The NBA is not the only sport dealing with the pandemic. Both the XFL and soccer have seen players — and one coach — receive positive tests. An unnamed member of the Seattle Dragons tested positive for coronavirus Friday. The XFL has already suspended the 2020 season. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odio both tested positive. The Premier League suspended games until April 4. Every Chelsea player and a number of Arsenal players are under quarantine as a result of those two positive tests.

MLB and NFL are among the sports that have yet to announce a positive test. The NFL is currently in its offseason, giving players less of a chance to gather in large groups. While at least one Arizona Diamondbacks player has been tested, that test came back negative. MLB already has a connection to the coronavirus, however, as Donovan Mitchell Sr. is a New York Mets employee. Donovan Mitchell Sr. was also tested, though his test came back negative.
