Donald Trump lives in the White House, but he has spent a lot of his weekends as President away from Washington, D.C. — most of those at his Mar-a-Lago club and estate in Florida. However, Florida is a rather uncomfortable place to be in the summer, especially for a golfer. So, Trump is apparently trying to figure out where should be his “Summer White House,” and it seems like he has the site of this year’s U.S. Women’s Open in mind.

According to the New York Daily News, Trump intends to make his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., into his summer retreat. It just so happens that’s where the Women’s Open will be played in July.

Bedminster is about 40 miles outside of Manhattan, and it’s a quiet town except for Trump’s private club, complete with 36 holes of golf.

Such a choice would have substantial effects on traffic up and down Interstate 95 and the New Jersey Turnpike, and it would have an effect on Bedminster businesses (just ask business owners in West Palm Beach, Fla., near Mar-a-Lago).

The Bedminster club was where Trump chose to conduct some of his transition meetings with potential cabinet members and other appointees. That forced the Bedminster police department to spend some $4,000 in local police overtime for just one weekend. That cost could skyrocket.

The U.S. Women’s Open is July 13-16 at Trump National in Bedminster, which would seemingly prevent Trump from conducting business on property during the same week. However, Trump has been reluctant to say if he will appear there during the Open or at his club in Northern Virginia, which is set to host the Senior PGA Championship at the end of May.
