Don Cherry, Ron MacLean see names unveiled on Canada's Walk of Fame

Two long-standing fixtures on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada were in downtown Toronto for the unveiling of their names on Canada's Walk of Fame.

Sportscaster Don Cherry and Ron MacLean were honoured Monday with a star, inlaid on the sidewalks of the city's entertainment district. The hosts of Coach's Corner were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame last November.

"I'm grateful, I really am," MacLean said Monday. "It just feels like a nice little cherry on top."

The Canadian hockey duo have appeared together on CBC for more than three decades. The star shows both names and signatures, with the name of their long-running segment also included.

"That's what we're noted for, it's Coach's Corner," Cherry said at the unveiling. "I like that my name's on top."

Cherry, 82, coached in the NHL for the Boston Bruins and Colorado Rockies. MacLean, 56, is a longtime broadcaster who has been with CBC since he was 26 years old.

"It means a lot to me to have it here," Cherry said of the distinction on Toronto's King Street West.

When the two talked about the induction last November, MacLean called Cherry a "mentor" for his support through the years.

"I just feel like we were on a good team, and that's nice to have been a part of," MacLean said in 2015.

Last November, Cherry told CBC News it "really means a lot" and to accept the honour with his colleague.

Cherry and MacLean are set to return to Hockey Night in Canada next season after agreeing to new deals.

Michael Bublé, Silken Laumann, Wendy Crewson, Lawrence Hill and Lorne Greene (posthumously) were also inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame last fall.
