Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead is questionable to play in Sunday night’s road game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Armstead, who missed the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers because of a pectoral strain, was at the portion of practice open to media. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Armstead would be a limited participant Friday for the second consecutive day.

“I feel good about him being able to play, but we still have a day of practice to go through,” McDaniel said. “We need to make sure that there are no setbacks. But he’s feeling good and he wants to play and we are hoping for the best as far as Sunday goes.”

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, tight end Durham Smythe (quad/knee) and defensive tackle Justin Zimmer (back) are also questionable. If Bridgewater, who has missed the last three games, is not active, rookie Skylar Thompson will once again back up Tagovailoa. McDaniel said Bridgewater is nearing a return.

“He knows when it’s go time for his body and how his body needs to respond,” McDaniel said. “We know we’re getting close. We’re not exactly sure when that is, but he’s doing a good job. He’s in a good space.”

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was not given a game status for the ankle injury that limited him in practice Wednesday and Thursday.

“I don’t expect that to be a factor whatsoever,” McDaniel said.

Wide receiver River Cracraft is doubtful and unlikely to play after injuring his calf in practice Thursday. He wasn’t at the open portion of practice.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was sidelined by an illness Thursday, returned to practice Friday and does not have a game status.

Four Chargers starters are doubtful: safety Derwin James Jr. (quad), cornerback Bryce Callahan (groin), defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day (knee) and tackle Trey Pipkins III (knee). Tight end Richard Rodgers (knee) is questionable.

This and that

McDaniel said left guard Liam Eichenberg, who was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday after missing four games with a knee injury, could be activated to the 53-man roster for Sunday’s game.

“There is that possibility, but I feel very good about him next week,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel said he feels “very comfortable” with left tackle Eric Fisher making his team debut Sunday night.

“He had a good first day of full-speed football activity for the first time in a long time,” McDaniel said. “And it went well, so if it was just based on that, I think it’d be good. I kind of want to see [Friday] how his body responds. A big portion of football is building that callus in regards to your position-specific stuff and being able to perform.”

Safety Brandon Jones, who sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 7, is with the team in Los Angeles and was seen walking laps around the practice field without a brace.

“He is as diligent of a worker, attacking his injury, and enjoys being a part of the team as much as any player that I’ve been around,” McDaniel said. “It’s been cool to watch and I think it’s inspiring to the players that are able to continue on during the season.”

According to the NFL Players Association’s salary profile report, the Dolphins signed Fisher to a one-year deal with a base salary of $1.12 million. Miami gave Fisher a $2.68 signing bonus spread out over four additional void years, per Over the Cap. The void years do not extend the contract and are used as placeholders for the prorated bonus.
