Dodger Montano Suspended Following Positive UFC 188 Drug Test

Dodger Montano Suspended Following Positive UFC 188 Drug Test

Augusto “Dodger” Montano failed his UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum post-fight drug test and has subsequently been suspended.

Montano not only dropped a unanimous decision to Cathal Pendred at UFC 188, he also tested positive for “exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites,” which means some outside source influenced his testosterone level. As a result of the failed drug test, Montano was handed a one-year suspension.

Montano's positive drug test follows that of Gilbert Melendez stemming from the same event.

Without a government-run regulatory body in Mexico City, where UFC 188 took place on June 13, the UFC self-regulated the event and handed down the suspension.

“Following his bout at UFC 188 in Mexico City on June 13, UFC welterweight Augusto ‘Dodger' Montano tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites,” read a UFC statement released on Friday.

“The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. As a result of the positive test, Montano has accepted a one-year suspension, effective from the date of the bout, for violating the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC.”

The bout was Montano's second under the UFC banner. He is now 1-1 in the Octagon and 15-2 overall.
