Devils Have Interesting Trade Target From Canadiens
The New Jersey Devils are off to an excellent start this season. At the time of this writing, they sport an 18-9-2 record and are tied with the Washington Capitals in points (38) at the top of the Metropolitan Division.
With the Devils being one of the top teams in the league right now, the expectation is that they will look to add to their roster before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline passes. One specific area where they could look to improve is their bottom six.
When looking at potential bottom-six forwards who could be on the move this season, Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans stands out.
Evans, 28, is having a solid season with the Canadiens, posting five goals and 14 points in his first 26 games. With such numbers, he would undoubtedly provide the Devils with more secondary offensive production if acquired. He has also been trending in the right direction as of late, as his four points in his last five games effectively show.
Besides having the potential to give the Devils more depth production, Evans also provides value because of his strong defensive play. With this, if acquired, he would be a clear option for New Jersey's penalty kill.
Evans has an affordable $1.7 million cap hit until the end of the season. With the Habs struggling, it is quite possible he could be made available later this campaign. If he is, the Devils would be wise to make a push for him.
