Yahoo Sports Despite placing player on COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday, Raiders hold practice Wednesday
The Las Vegas Raiders must feel pretty confident with the team currently dealing with a coronavirus outbreak. Despite placing defensive lineman Maurice Hurst on the COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday, the Raiders held practice as scheduled Wednesday.
Hurst being placed on the COVID-19/reserve does not necessarily mean he tested positive for coronavirus. Players who have come in contact with someone who tested positive can also be placed on the COVID-19/reserve list. Hurst and the Raiders have not confirmed whether Hurst tested positive for coronavirus.
In four games, Hurst has racked up 13 tackles.
Patriots canceled practice after positive test
The Raiders holding practice comes as a surprise, especially after the New England Patriots canceled practice Wednesday and Thursday after cornerback Stephon Gilmore tested positive for coronavirus. Gilmore confirmed his positive test and said he’s asymptomatic.
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list Saturday. Despite that, the Patriots were allowed to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday after no other members of the Patriots or Chiefs tested positive for coronavirus Sunday or Monday. The Chiefs also reportedly had one player test positive for coronavirus Saturday.
The Chiefs have not experienced any additional positive tests. In addition to Gilmore, the Patriots placed lineman Bill Murray on the COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday. The Patriots have not confirmed whether Murray tested positive for the virus.
Maurice Hurst was not at Raiders’ charity event
Hurst being placed on the COVID-19/reserve list comes just a week after a number of Raiders players — including Derek Carr and Jason Witten — were seen mingling with fans at a charity event while not wearing masks. Hurst was not among the players fined for attending the event. Because of that, it’s assumed he was not present at that charity event.
It’s not the first time this season the Raiders have been fined for failing to follow coronavirus protocols. Head coach Jon Gruden received a $100,000 fine for not wearing his mask properly on the sideline and the Raiders were fined $250,000 for Gruden’s actions. The team was also fined $50,000 after a non-credentialed employee was allowed into the locker room following the team’s Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints.
