Derrius Guice hits another injury setback, placed on injured reserve with knee injury

For the second time in his two-year NFL career, Washington running back Derrius Guice is ending his season on injured reserve.

Washington placed Guice on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon shortly after reports surfaced that MRI results showed a sprained MCL in his left knee. Guice suffered the injury during Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.

3 knee injuries in 2 seasons

It’s the third knee injury Guice has suffered since Washington selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. The latest injury occurred in the same knee that forced Guice to miss his entire rookie season with an ACL tear.

The ACL tear multiple surgeries after doctors discovered an infection in his knee following his initial procedure.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport reports that Guice’s ACL is intact following Sunday’s injury.

Guice was starting to hit his stride

Guice returned for the beginning of this season, but suffered a meniscus tear in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Guice sat until Week 11, when he returned to face the New York Jets. Two weeks later, he had his breakout game against the Carolina Panthers, tallying 129 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

In limited action this season, he flashed the potential that had him pegged by many as a first-round talent out of LSU, averaging 5.8 yards on 42 carries over the course of five games. He also caught seven passes for 79 yards.

Guice stays positive

Guice remained upbeat on Twitter this week despite another injury setback.

The good news for Guice is that his ACL appears to be unaffected by his latest injury, and he has a chance to spend a full offseason recovering before giving it another shot next year.
