Derek Brunson Makes Quick, if Controversial, Work of Uriah Hall at UFC Hidalgo

Derek Brunson Says Anderson Silva's Losses are Due to ‘Unfortunate Events'

Derek Brunson made short work of Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Johnson on Saturday night in Hidalgo, Texas.

Hall was one of the hottest properties coming off of Season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter; Brunson, a top contender from the Strikeforce acquisition. Neither has quite realized his full potential in the Octagon, but Brunson proved he was the one ready to continue the upward climb.

Hall was quick to engage from the opening bell, but Brunson slowed him down, failing to complete a takedown attempt, but successfully clinching and pressing him to the fence, delivering a solid knee to the body.

After separating, Hall landed a solid front kick to Brunson's body, but didn’t capitalize. Brunson returned fire, landing a left cross that sent Hall to the canvas.

Brunson followed him down and started dropping left hands. Only two or three got through as Hall tried to cover up, but referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight.

Hall popped up, seemingly able to continue, but the fight had been waved off at 1:41 of the first round.

The victory was Brunson’s fifth consecutive, and his fourth straight first-round finish.

“Nobody has stopped Uriah Hall. Nobody stopped the rest of the guys I fought. I’m out here stopping these guys,” said Brunson after the fight.

“The only guy I lost to popped for PEDs. I think it’s about time to give me that title shot. I’m next in line, let’s go.”
