Former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross had the perfect ending to his baseball career. His “Dancing with the Stars” career could wind up the same.

In his final routine with partner Lindsay Arnold, the 40-year-old catcher received a perfect score from the judges.

The final event of the night was a freestyle. Ross and Arnold opted to go with a mashup of “It Takes Two” and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” After some theatrics with a baseball bat, including an impressive spin with his partner, Ross was lifted up in the air with his arms raised at the end of the dance. There was a large Cubs “W” flag flying in the background.

The performance earned Ross and Arnold a 40/40 from the judges, a perfect score. Even Ross was surprised.

That was the second dance of the night for the duo. Earlier, they performed a waltz as part of the redemption challenge. Ross and Arnold didn’t fare as well there, receiving a 33/40 from the judges.

With the first part of the “Dancing with the Stars” finale out of the way, the rest is up to fate. The winning team will be announced during the second half of the finale, which airs on ABC on Tuesday. Ross and Arnold are competing against New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings and partner Emma Slater and singer Normani Kordei and partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

Ross will need plenty of support from Cubs’ fans to take home the title. His combined score was actually the lowest of the trio. Kordei and Chmerkovskiy scored a 38 and a perfect 40 in the two challenges. Jennings and Slater received a perfect 40 both times out. Judging solely by points, Ross is the underdog.

That might not matter, because Ross is getting plenty of support from celebrities.

On top of that, he has entire Cubs nation behind him. And they seem pretty invested in his Ross’ success.

Fans have until 8:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday to vote for Ross and Arnold. The second half of the “Dancing with the Stars” finale will air a half hour later. A winner will be crowned at the end of the program.

Will Ross’ dancing career mirror with Cubs career? We’re guessing some passionate North Siders are going to work hard to add yet another improbable championship to Ross’ portfolio.
