New York Giants fans will receive the gift of more Mike Glennon for the holidays. The team shut down Daniel Jones for the rest of the season Monday due to a neck injury.

Jones missed the past three games due to the issue. Jones is still not cleared for contact, leading to the team's decision to shut him down. The team expects Jones to make a full recovery.

Jones threw for 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 11 games and posted a career-high 64.3 completion percentage. Jones also had 7 fumbles.

Daniel Jones faces critical season in 2022

The injury ends yet another underwhelming season for Jones. Since being selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Jones has not lived up to expectations. His most promising season was his rookie year, when Jones threw 24 touchdowns against 12 interceptions in 13 games.

He regressed in his second year, tossing 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 14 games. Jones failed to show significant gains in 2021, putting him in a tough spot for 2022.

At 4-10, the Giants currently hold a top-5 pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The team could wind up with two picks in the top-10 — or higher — as they also have the Chicago Bears' first-round pick in the draft.

Taking a quarterback with one of those picks — or bringing in a competent veteran in the offseason — makes sense. After another disappointing year, Jones hasn't shown enough to be guaranteed a starting spot next season.
