Daniel Alfredsson to sit Game 3 vs. Bruins

Daniel Alfredsson and his 123 games of Stanley Cup playoff experience will be missing from the Detroit Red Wings' lineup on Tuesday night.

The 41-year-old winger will sit out Game 3 of a first-round series against Boston with an upper-body injury.

Alfredsson was able to play 17 minutes in a 4-1 loss in Game 2 on Sunday, but he didn’t practise Monday and needs another day of rest, according to Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.

Alfredsson has no points in the first two games of the series but has scored 51 goals and 100 points in 123 playoff contests.

Left-winger Joakim Andersson will draw into the lineup and play on a line with centre Darren Helm and Tomas Jurco.

“Andersson can help our penalty kill,” Babcock told reporters. “He’s a good faceoff guy, he’s a big body [six-foot-two, 206 pounds], knows how to play.”

The 25-year-old Andersson, who had 17 points in 65 games during the regular season, had five points in 14 post-season games with Detroit a year ago.
