Dana White: If Ronda Rousey Wins Title, Cyborg Fight Will Happen

UFC president Dana White on Wednesday announced Ronda Rousey's return to the Octagon. No, it won't be against Cris “Cyborg” Justino, for which many have clamored. It will be against bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas.

White, however, said that if Rousey gets the belt back, the Rousey vs. Cyborg fight would happen.

“I know that Cyborg wants that fight. Ronda wants that fight too,” said White on The Herd on FS1. “Ronda’s plan right now is to come back and try to win her title back. If that happens, the Cyborg fight will definitely happen.”

Read into that what you will, but it is a fight that is likely to eventually happen. It would be huge business.

Now, taking that statement in context, does it mean that if Rousey comes back and beats Nunes that Cyborg is her next fight? You might infer that from what White said, but, no, he didn't put a time stamp on it.

More likely, Rousey would continue to try and defend the belt, while the UFC continued to feed Cyborg opponents in the Octagon, building the match-up to critical mass.

So, while it sounds good on the surface, don't read too much into the idea that there is a clear linear path to Rousey vs. Cyborg. For now, Rousey is on the comeback trail and that's where we stand, continuing to hope that the megafight eventually gets made.
