Blazers star Damian Lillard to get second MRI on knee after 'inconclusive' result

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard suffered a potentially scary non-contact injury on Monday night during the Blazers’ 135-115 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. In the third quarter, he pulled up for a shot but landed awkwardly on his right knee.

Lillard went back to the locker room after that. He returned for a few possessions but left again shortly after, this time for good. Before bowing out, Lillard scored 11 points with four assists over 26 minutes of play.

Lillard to have second MRI on knee

After Lillard left the game for good in the third quarter, he went to get an MRI on his right knee. The Blazers announced later on Monday night that the results were inconclusive, so Lillard will be getting a second MRI on his knee on Tuesday afternoon.

The MRI machine is on the NBA campus in Orlando, so Lillard won’t have to exit the bubble. However, depending on the severity of the possible injury, he might need to leave to receive treatment.

Lillard’s injury could not come at a worse time for the Blazers. They’re down 3-1 to the Lakers, with Game 5 — an elimination game — scheduled for Wednesday. Portland has been cooling off after being red hot in the seeding games and beating the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in game to earn their spot in the playoffs. They even beat the Lakers in the first game of this series, but they’ve been falling back down to Earth ever since.

Now they’ll be fighting to stay alive in the playoffs on Wednesday, and they may have to do it without their star.
