Dallas Recalls AHL Defenseman for Blueline Help

The Dallas Stars announced Friday that Alexander Petrovic was recalled from the Texas Stars ahead of the upcoming game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Petrovic, who has played 264 career games in the NHL, has been a familiar face for the Stars since the end of last season. Though he only played one regular season game, he played in seven playoff games last season starting in the series against the Avalanche and into the series against the Edmonton Oilers. He established himself as a trustworthy defenseman as their trust in Nils Lundvkist diminished the farther they got into the playoffs.

Lundkvist finally established himself this season with a regular spot in the lineup, but as fate would have it, he now finds himself sitting out due to injury. The injury has forced Matt Dumba and Brendan Smith onto the third pairing for the Stars. In their last game against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Stars lost 6-2 in a pitiful outing that was not good from the start. But in particular, the pairing of Dumba and Smith was extremely bad. Dumba was -3 and Smith was -4.

With the addition of Petrovic for tonight's game, it is likely that one of those two will be watching the game from the press box. Petrovic it a right-handed defenseman, so signs point to Dumba being the healthy scratch, but anything could happen, as DeBoer has been known to play defensemen on their off sides.
