Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today, we’re looking at one of the coolest job titles in the world: ninja. The town of Iga, Japan, known as the birthplace of the silent assassin, attracts more than 30,000 tourists each year to its ninja festival. However, with more and more of its young people leaving to seek employment in cities, Iga’s economy is facing a tough road. In response, Mayor Sakae Okamoto has announced a plan to boost the economy by making ninja-based tourism a year-round affair. According to the Foreign Press Center of Japan, ninja performers can make up to $85,000 per year.

A previous description of this video incorrectly stated that Iga, Japan, is actively seeking applicants to fill the shortage of ninja performers. The text has been updated to clarify the issue.
