Cubs fan will donate to domestic-violence charity for each Aroldis Chapman save

The acquisition of bazooka-armed reliever Aroldis Chapman wasn’t exactly greeted with glee by Chicago Cubs fans because of the pitcher’s offseason domestic violence incident.

While Cubs fans are desperate for their team to finally end its 108-year-old streak without a World Series title, some aren’t desperate enough that they feel comfortable adding a player to the roster who was accused of domestic violence before prosecutors ultimately decided not to file charges.

Lifelong Cubs fan Caitlin Swieca decided to do something positive to help herself cope with the disappointment she felt in her beloved team. Swieca told dnainfo.com she has decided to donate $10 to the Domestic Violence Legal Council of Chicago for each save recorded by Chapman for the rest of the regular season.

She made her first donation on Thursday night after the Cubs beat the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field with Chapman earning his first save in a Cubs uniform.

Swieca shared her feelings about the Chapman trade and her decision to do something about it on Twitter and it was met with a positive response. Some even followed her lead and made donations of their own to the same organization.

The Cubs are one of the best teams in baseball this season and Chapman is likely to have numerous chances to earn saves between now and October, which means Swieca is likely to end up donating hundreds of dollars.
