As his retirement nears, broadcasting legend Vin Scully will call his final Dodgers-Cubs game on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

Given that the history between the clubs actually pre-dates Scully’s 67 years in the broadcast booth, that means he’s likely called over half of their 1,930 all-time matchups.

That’s a pretty amazing thought, and it certainly makes this final broadcast one for the history books. That’s why the Cubs and their broadcast partners at Comcast SportsNet in Chicago have decided to pay a special tribute to Scully while also giving their viewers a pretty cool treat.

From CSN Chicago:

To honor one of the greatest sports broadcasters in radio and television history, Comcast SportsNet Chicago will be carrying the live audio call for one inning featuring Los Angeles Dodgers legend Vin Scully’s final Dodgers-Cubs game on Sunday afternoon, August 28. CSN will carry the SportsNet LA audio feed with Scully’s live game call during the entire 3rd inning.

Given the Dodgers television mess, it’s possible this means more people in Chicago will hear Scully’s voice on Sunday than those in Los Angeles. The game will also be broadcast on TBS at 4:00 p.m. ET, though Scully will not be involved in that broadcast.

CSN Chicago is also urging fans to send in memories and tributes that will be shown throughout the game.

Leading up to and during Sunday’s Cubs-Dodgers telecast on CSN, fans are urged to post their fondest memories of Scully by utilizing the Twitter hashtag #VinOnCSN. Plus – a number of viewer tweets will be shown on air during the third inning when Scully’s game call takes place.

It’s an awesome gesture by everybody involved. It’s also only the latest in a weekend filled with kindness on the Cubs part. Before Friday’s game, many of the players bowed in the direction of the Dodgers TV booth to acknowledge Scully.

Manager Joe Maddon and retiring catcher David Ross also paid Scully a visit, delivering several souvenirs from Wrigley Field.

Needless to say, the Cubs aren’t just winning on the field.
