Tijjani Reijnders has become immovable for AC Milan since his arrival last year, and he is set to be rewarded with a long-term deal.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes today, since the start of this season Reijnders has amassed six goals and one assist , demonstrating that he has made the leap in quality that was asked of him in terms of end product after a positive first campaign.

The Dutchman is like the rest of the squad in the sense that the arrival of the new head coach could have had a positive or negative impact, with new tactical instructions to adhere to and potentially even switches in role. However, Fonseca made his thoughts on Reijnders known in September.

“A unique player in our team, we have no other players with these particular characteristics,” were the words of the Portuguese. He is unique within the squad to the extent that he will even be asked to start tonight in the Coppa Italia against Sassuolo, as per widespread reports.

Looking at the numbers, Reijnders and Fofana are the two players most used by Fonseca this season with 1363 minutes and 1381 minutes respectively. The difference is down to the game that the former missed due to suspension against Napoli.

While waiting to understand when and how Ismael Bennacer will return, Milan are working on the renewal of Reijnders. The closing of the agreement is near – as the player himself confirmed – and a pay rise as part of an extension until 2030 are expected.
