CorSport: Ibrahimovic stands with Fonseca – what he told the team at Milanello
Paulo Fonseca’s outburst after Wednesday’s match against Red Star has the full support of the management, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic showed yesterday.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Fonseca’s angry reaction will have immediate consequences. Theo Hernandez will start from the bench in tomorrow’s match against Genoa, which will coincide with Milan ‘s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The Portuguese coach never mentioned the name of the French full-back in his post-match rant about the attitudes of his players, but at this point we could say it was obvious that the speech was addressed to him among others.
How do the club feel? Well, the management are fully behind Fonseca and his choices, and perhaps this is also why there was no director present at Milanello the day after the game. In other words, they wanted to show that they believe he has the situation in hand.
The former Lille coach has already shown that he is not afraid of making strong decisions, while the directors reiterated their trust to him during a meeting at the youth sector Christmas party, where there was a very quick exchange between Fonseca and Ibrahimovic.

Speaking of the Swede, he returned to Milanello yesterday. There was no face-to-face discussion with individuals, but simple open dialogue in front of the team and coach, where the message that was sent does not need interpretation.
What he said was clear: the Genoa game is in the crosshairs because the league form absolutely has to change, if the Rossoneri are to begin climbing the standings towards a Champions League place.
