During the on-field celebration following Iowa’s 14-13 upset victory against Michigan, the helmet of Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard went missing.

Beathard threw his helmet as he ran to celebrate with teammates following Keith Duncan’s last-second 33-yard field goal, and never gave his equipment a second thought.

But Beathard’s helmet was at the forefront of the minds of the equipment staff. After the helmet was nowhere to be found, the local police were asked to keep a lookout and, according to Beathard, they found a young man walking down the street with it on his head.

“That was the last thing I was thinking about was my helmet,” Beathard said. “I figured we would get them back and we did.”

Beathard’s helmet wasn’t the only one that went missing. During a meeting with the media, Beathard noted that seven helmets went missing, including one belonging to linebacker Ben Niemann, which ultimately was found in the stands.
