Conor McGregor unimpressed with 'The McGregor Challenge'

Conor McGregor isn’t used to being the butt of the joke. Rather, he’s normally on the side that is making fun of his opponents. But he’s been the target of a parody as fighters — primarily in boxing — have mocked his rather unique training techniques with what has been called “The McGregor Challenge.”

On a recent conference call, McGregor addressed the parody videos and offered his take at being mocked.

“I’ve seen some videos,” McGregor said. “It is what it is. It’s lighthearted, I don’t take it personal.”

Although he didn’t take it personally, he did want to point out that everyone was doing it wrong.

“If anything, I see stiffness in every single one of them,” he continued before educating on the video of his arms flailing and how that helps him train. “You must have the limbs free. The shoulders must be disconnected. You must have the ability to disconnect your shoulders and re-connect it at the point of impact.”

While fellow fighters may not comprehend how McGregor’s training methods will help him defeat one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all time on Aug. 26, McGregor suggests that thinking out of the box is the only way to not end up being victim No. 50 on Mayweather’s hit list.

“Seeing the disrespect and disregard of my skill set is very motivating,” he said. “They have a closed mind to how things can be done. If that was the case we would have never went into space. You have to have an open mind and realize there are other ways train to win a fight. Fighting is a complex game.”

He’ll have the opportunity to prove his naysayers wrong on the biggest stage in combat sports history in just over a week.
