Connor McDavid scores 5 goals in Oilers' scrimmage

The Edmonton Oilers picked someone that's ready to compete when they chose Connor McDavid first overall in June's NHL draft.

To the surprise of no one, the 18-year-old centre was a standout in the Oilers orientation camp scrimmage. He contributed more than half of his team's goals in an 8-6 victory to close out camp with a whooping five-goal statement.

With or without the onslaught of scoring, the potential generational player enjoyed his introduction to Edmonton.

"Any time you get to play in front of fans like that it's always exciting. It was pretty competitive with the guys that we had and there were a lot of great players out there," McDavid said.

"We learned a lot. You're just a sponge all week and that's what you got to be doing, just learning a lot. That's what this week is about."
