Real Salt Lake 1-0 Portland Timbers

Real Salt Lake defeated Portland 1-0 on Saturday, remaining undefeated while the Timbers stayed winless, and Nick Rimando was the biggest reason for the result. The American goalkeeper was superb, making four saves to keep a clean sheet.

It was apparent Rimando was on his game in the 19th minute when he shoved Darlington Nagbe's shot over the bar with his gloved right hand. He was even better late, stopping what looked like certain Timbers goals in the 85th minute with a hockey-style kick save, and the 88th minute when he extended to rob Gaston Fernandez and preserve the win.

"Struggling Portland produced one of its better performances of the season so far, but the Timbers couldn't find a way past Nick Rimando, who was a rock in goal with several impressive saves to keep RSL on top in the 1-0 win and preserve its status as the only undefeated team remaining in Major League Soccer," wrote Goal USA's Cascadia columnist Keith Hickey.

Should tragedy strike and both Tim Howard and Brad Guzan go down during the World Cup, Jurgen Klinsmann still won't have to fear. He clearly has a capable third keeper.

Congratulations to Nick Rimando, Goal's 19th CONCACAF Player of the Week winner!

  The Shortlist

Matt Hedges - FC Dallas

The center back scored the opener and assisted the winner in his club's 2-1 defeat of Toronto FC. He also dealt with his defensive responsibilities well, even if Toronto was hardly at full strength because of injuries. It was an all-around quality performance for the man who is making a (supremely) early case for 2018.

Miguel Sabah - Leon

With last tournament's champion in danger of missing the postseason, it was the 32-year-old who stepped up to make sure the pride of Guanajuato remains alive in the Liguilla race, scoring twice to help the club to a 3-0 win against Tigres.

Alejandro Bedoya - Nantes

The American winger was on target for the Ligue 1 outfit in a 6-2 rout of Valenciennes. "A safe bet to make the U.S. World Cup team, Bedoya's impressive first season in France has him looking like a serious contender for a starting role." - Goal USA's Ives Galarcep

Carlos Vela - Real Sociedad

"The most dangerous player from the CONCACAF region was at it again this weekend, scoring a late winner for Real Sociedad to give his team a 2-1 result against Espanyol. The goal, which required a really nice take on his chest and then a touch around a defender before slipping it home, was the highlight of another good outing for the Mexican and will certainly bring about another round of questions as to why he and the Mexican FA can't just hug it out." - Goal USA's Allen Ramsey

Also receiving votes: Hector Herrera, Porto; Terrence Boyd, Rapid Vienna; Darren Mattocks, Vancouver Whitecaps
