Jackson, who is 33 years old, had started all 12 games for the Colts, with 78 total tackles. He also has three pass break-ups, two fumble recoveries and a sack this year. He can return to the team’s roster on Jan. 2, the day after Indianapolis’ regular-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A Pro Bowler in 2014, Jackson’s first-half interception in the AFC championship game that same year sparked the saga known as deflate-gate: Jackson brought the football to the sideline as a souvenir and Colts equipment workers tested the PSI level of the football, saw it was under the NFL-mandated threshold, and told team officials, who got the NFL involved.
