Bad beats: Kentucky covers 21.5-point spread by scoring TD with 4 seconds left

Georgia bettors are a little ticked off about the final 11:27 of the Bulldogs' win over No. 11 Kentucky.

The Wildcats scored with four seconds left in Georgia's 30-13 victory to cover a 21.5-point spread. And that TD came on Kentucky's 22nd play of a drive that took 11:23 off the clock after Georgia scored its final TD of the game.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 30-7 on a 20-yard TD pass from Stetson Bennett to Brock Bowers. The PAT to make it a 24-point lead was no good — a bad break at the time for bettors who grabbed Georgia at -23.5 earlier in the week. The kick broke a streak of 363 straight made PATs for Georgia kickers that dated back to 2014.

We all figured that Kentucky would get the ball back and attempt to score quickly. They did not, though the long drive may not have been by choice. Georgia's defense entered the game with only two touchdowns allowed all season. And it was hellbent on not doubling that total on Saturday.

Kentucky finally got to the Georgia 15 with 1:59 to go and needed a fourth-down conversion to continue the drive. From there, it took five more plays to score and the TD with four seconds left came on Kentucky’s third attempt from a yard away.

It almost didn’t happen, either. JuTahn McClain ran up the middle for no gain with less than 20 seconds left and the game appeared to be over. But Kentucky coach Mark Stoops got a timeout with eight seconds left and allowed Kentucky to run one more play for the cover.

And that cover happened when Will Levis hit Wan’Dale Robinson.

It would have been an exceptionally bad beat if the PATs on the final two touchdowns would have gone through the uprights. The extra point after Robinson's TD was blocked. The total was 44.5. If the Georgia PAT streak continued on the final touchdown and UK kick had gone through the uprights the total would have been 45 points.
