College Fantasy football players you should be replacing for Week 8

As the final few games of the college fantasy football regular season approach it may be time for you to make a couple drastic decisions with your roster. The first half of the season is enough of a sample size to make some moves you never thought you would make at the beginning of the year. But if you want to win, you may need to make them. Here are some players you want to drop if they’re on your team.

Quarterback

DROP

Kahlil Tate, Arizona: It can be extremely hard to drop a player who you chose No. 1 or No. 2 overall. But sometimes you have to make a hard decision in fantasy football. Set Tate free. He’s going to miss this weekend’s game against UCLA and could miss more time with a lingering left ankle injury that’s more than lingering at this point. After averaging over nine yards a carry in 2017, Tate’s down to below 2.5 yards per rush in 2018. There are better options out there.

ADD

Clayton Thorson, Northwestern: Thorson, who featured in Pete Thamel’s column earlier this week about the top 10 draft-eligible QBs, has a great matchup in Week 8 against Rutgers. You should start people whenever you can against Rutgers, so if you’re in need of a QB this week you might as well try Thorson.

Running Back

DROP

LJ Scott, Michigan State: Scott’s set to miss the Spartans’ game against Michigan and maybe even a few more games after that. Scott’s got enough name recognition that someone else could pick him up after you drop him but let another owner take that risk. Scott has averaged just over three yards a carry on his 30 carries this season.

ADD

Pooka Williams, Kansas: Yes, I’m recommending you pick up a player from Kansas. Williams has 65 or more yards rushing in each of the five games he’s played in this season and is a receiving threat as well. Texas Tech’s defense has been suddenly staunch lately, but Williams is a good guy to stash at the end of your bench.

RECEIVER

DROP

Stanley Morgan, Nebraska: After eight catches for 93 yards against Wisconsin two weeks ago, Morgan had just two for 31 yards against Northwestern. More troubling for fantasy owners is Morgan’s one touchdown through six games. Go ahead and drop him in favor of a teammate.

ADD

JD Spielman, Nebraska: Spielman is still available in over half of leagues. He has six touchdowns this season and has logged at least eight catches in each of Nebraska’s last three games. Spielman has emerged as the top receiving threat in Nebraska’s offense and with the Huskers potentially playing a lot of catchup this season, he’s a good idea to add.

DEFENSE

DROP

Washington: Somehow the Huskies are owned in 77 percent of leagues despite scoring just 40 points all season. It’s time to move on if you have Washington on your team.

ADD

Kentucky: The Wildcats have given up 20 points or less in each of their six games this season. That streak may not continue against Missouri and Georgia over the next few weeks but with games against Vanderbilt (Saturday), Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State and Louisville remaining, Kentucky is a good add for a reliable defense.
