Coleen Nolan gets emotional as her sisters ring the bell on chemo

Coleen Nolan had some good news to share on Monday’s Loose Women: her sisters Anne and Linda, who had both been battling cancer for a second time, have finished their treatment.

“Finally, finally, both of them have got to ring the bell for the end of chemo treatment,” she told her co-presenters Denise Welch, Andrea McLean and Saira Khan, who all cheered and clapped at the news.

She added of the bell-ringing: “Somebody ringing that – I didn’t realise – it’s so emotional,” and went on to reveal how sister Linda had cried afterwards.

The TV show also tweeted the news, saying: “We're sending so much love to Coleen's sisters, Linda and Anne, who've both now rung the bell to mark the end of their chemotherapy The #LooseWomen family is with you.”

The past year has been an emotional one for the Nolan sisters. In May, both Linda and Anne discovered that they needed chemotherapy for cancer after having beaten the disease once already. And they lost their sister Bernie to the illness in 2013.

At the time, Linda told The Sun newspaper that “We laughed and we cried really. It’s hysterical.” Adding, “Forget the Chemical Brothers, we’ve become the Chemo Sisters.”

Coleen has been sending messages of support and updating Loose Women viewers on their progress every step of the way. But it has made her question whether she needs to take action herself.

She told The Mirror: “Seeing what Anne and Linda are going through has made me think a lot about having a mastectomy.

“I’ve been lying in bed at night, looking down at my breasts and thinking, ‘Am I just walking around with two timebombs here?’ If that’s a possibility, maybe I need to get rid of them.”

Coleen and her sisters became a singing sensation in the 1970s, appearing on TV with Cliff Richard, Morecambe and Wise and the Two Ronnies. But in the 90s the women started moving in different directions, with several becoming actresses, most notably Bernie, who had a regular role in Brookside.

The sisters recently reunited on-screen for TV’s The Nolans In The Mood For Cruising.
