It’s one of my favourite scenes from the 1993 hit movie “Cool Runnings.”

The Jamaican bobsled team, having qualified for the 1998 Olympics, has just arrived at Calgary International Airport for the Winter Games. The team’s coach — played by the late, great John Candy — attempts to lead the team out of the airport en route to the hotel.

Coach Irv, assuming his bobsled team is right behind him, exits the airport and walks straight into a snow storm. The camera then pans back to the airport doors where, frigid and frightened, the Jamaican bobsled team incredulously waits.

As I learned about DeMarcus Walker’s first trip to Denver, I couldn’t help but think of that hilarious scene.

Walker, a second-round pick of the Broncos in the 2017 NFL Draft, grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, before playing his college ball at Florida State. The young man probably knew he was going to have to get used to the cold temperatures in Denver, but no one could have prepared Walker for his first encounter with snow.

Walker touched snow for the first time while visiting the team’s facility on Saturday. Yet unlike the members of the Jamaican bobsled team, Walker seemed eager to embrace the winter weather.

“It’s cold as heck,” Walker proclaims, smiling as he poses for a photo with his very first snowball in hand.
