Coastal Carolina’s surging baseball team already knew it was hosting the fifth NCAA Tournament regional in program history.

Now, the Chanticleers have the full details.

Coastal Carolina is the No. 10 national seed in the 64-team tournament, the NCAA’s Division I baseball selection committee announced Monday during its selection show.

UNC Wilmington, Duke and Rider are also in the Conway Regional at Springs Brooks Stadium. Coastal Carolina and Rider will play their first game at 7 p.m. Friday (ESPN+). Duke and UNCW play at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).

The Conway Regional is paired with the Charlottesville Regional, featuring No. 7 Virginia, Oklahoma, East Carolina and Army West Point.

The Chanticleers are hosting their fifth all-time NCAA Tournament regional and first since 2018, and they’re making their 17th NCAA appearance in the past 23 seasons under coach Gary Gilmore.

Coastal Carolina went 39-19 in 2023 and won the Sun Belt’s regular season championship before losing to Louisiana in the conference tournament semifinals.

The Chanticleers have been mainstay in the national rankings this spring and were No. 7 in D1Baseball’s latest Top 25 rankings. They were also No. 14 in the NCAA’s RPI metric, which helped them secure one of the tournament’s 16 coveted regional hosting sites.

Gilmore was the Sun Belt’s 2023 coach of the year, catcher Caden Bodine was the conference freshman of the year and the Chanticleers placed four players on the All-Sun Belt first team.

Coastal Carolina is one of three NCAA Tournament regional sites within the state of South Carolina. Clemson and South Carolina will also host regionals this weekend.
