Clarenville Caribous edged out in overtime at Allan Cup final

The Clarenville Caribous came close to their second Allan Cup in four years on Saturday, but in the end lost in overtime at the 2014 final.

The game ended in a 3-2 victory for the Dundas Real McCoys.

The Real McCoys led by a goal twice during regulation time, but the Caribous answered back, with two tying goals netted by Cam Fergus.

Clarenville goalie Jason Churchill made 38 saves on 41 shots, but in the end was beat by Randy Rowe of Dundas just past the five-minute mark of overtime.

Fergus led the Caribous with four goals and five assists at the tournament.

Along with fellow Clarenville forward Peter Campbell, who had seven points, Fergus and Campbell were the top two point scorers at this year's Allan Cup.

The Caribous have been consistently strong performers at this tournament in recent years, appearing in the finals at three of the last four tournaments.

In 2011 the Caribous won the Allan Cup, defeating the Bentley Generals 5-3.

The Caribous met the Generals again in the 2013 finals. That time the Generals were victorious by a score of 3-0.

The Caribous will have a chance to shine on home-ice next year, when the 2015 Allan Cup comes to Clarenville.

The Allan Cup is awarded to the top amateur men's ice hockey team in Canada each year.
