Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke has said his recovery from a knee injury is going well and he is hoping to return to action in “a few weeks”.

Benteke suffered ligament damage three weeks ago and was ruled out for at least six weeks.

Palace feared the Belgium international could be out for longer but he is on schedule in his recovery.

“The rehab is going really well,” said Benteke. “I am really happy with the way ligament is healing. Hopefully I can be back in a few weeks.”

The absence of Benteke saw Roy Hodgson play Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend as a makeshift front two in the 2-1 win against Chelsea on Saturday.

Zaha and Townsend were instrumental in the victory and the tactics proved a masterstroke, but the return of Benteke would be a boost for Palace in their bid to climb out of trouble.
