New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider punched Dallas Stars forward Cody Eakin with Eakin’s own helmet during a fight between the two players Tuesday.

According to the below gif, Kreider ripped off Eakin’s helmet and then landed the blow on the player before tossing the piece of equipment to the ice.

The tussle between the two occurred at the 1:52 mark of the second. Here is the full fight video:

Both players received five minutes for fighting, but the penalty for Kreider could have been more severe per rule 53.5.

Eakin and the Rangers have somewhat of a history – dating back to last month when he crashed into New York franchise goaltender Henrik Lundqvist in a game between the two teams. Eakin was suspended four games for that infraction. Leading into this game, Kreider talked tough on Eakin noting the Rangers could take matters into their own hands.

“I mean, that’s not something you forget about, obviously. I’m sure someone will have a conversation with (Eakin) about it at some point,” Kreider said according to the Daily News.

The Stars beat the Rangers 7-6 with Eakin getting a goal and an assist for a ‘Gordie Howe hat trick.’

“I faced the music and got two points at the end, so I was pretty happy,” Eakin said according to the Dallas Morning News. “I got a couple of hits on the first shift and then pretty much said let’s get it over with, and we did.”
