The Chiefs have terminated the practice squad contract of Matt Ammendola a day after he missed a field goal and extra point in the team’s 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, according to the NFL’s transaction report on Monday.

Ammendola was filling in for kicker Harrison Butker for the second straight week while Butker recovered from a left-ankle sprain suffered on a kickoff in the Chiefs’ season-opening game at Arizona.

Earlier Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked about Ammendola’s status with the team; he said general manager Brett Veach was “working through it.”

Reid didn’t say if Butker would be back, but Ammendola won’t be.

Ammendola kicked well enough in the Chiefs’ Sept. 15 victory over the L.A. Chargers. He made all five of his kicks — two field goals and three extra points.

Ammendola played at Oklahoma State and spent his first NFL season, last year, with the New York Jets.
