Chiefs lose rookie safety Juan Thornhill to torn ACL

The Kansas City Chiefs won their game on Sunday and the New England Patriots lost, which means the Chiefs are the No. 2 seed in the AFC.

But even a bye week won’t heal their promising young safety after the injury he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told media on Monday that rookie Juan Thornhill suffered a torn ACL.

A second-round pick out of Virginia, Thornhill started all 16 games this season, with 57 total tackles (41 solo), three interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown) and five pass break-ups.

Thornhill and Tyrann Mathieu formed one of the better safety duos in the league this season.

On Instagram, Thornhill posted a picture of himself in his red Chiefs uniform. “If y’all think this is going to stop me y’all are insane!!,” he wrote.
