Yahoo Sports Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland apologizes for 4-game suspension with rap video
The Kansas City Chiefs will be without a key member of their secondary to start their title defense.
A reported four-game suspension for Bashaud Breeland became official on Wednesday, prompting an apology from Kansas City’s starting cornerback.
“As previously announced by the League, I have received a 4 game suspension for off-the-field matters,” Breeland wrote on Instagram. “I post this today because I want to apologize, publicly, to the entire Chiefs organization, my coaches, teammates, family and fans.
“I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I look forward to getting back on the field with my teammates to defend our Super Bowl title.”

The apology also arrived with with a soundtrack. Breeland attached a clip from his rap video “Never” to his mea culpa.
No, Breeland didn’t write the song strictly for the apology. He originally dropped the track in 2019. But what better time than an NFL suspension apology to promote a side hustle?
April arrest apparently not related to suspension
While Breeland took “full responsibility” for his actions, he didn’t clarify what those actions were. Breeland was arrested in April at a South Carolina gas station, but that appears to be unrelated to the suspension.
Breeland reportedly faced multiple misdemeanor charges that consisted of resisting arrest, the transport of alcohol in motor vehicle with a broken seal, an open container of beer or wine in motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash, and driving without a license.
Video of the arrest emerged showing a police officer pulling his gun on Breeland as Breeland tried to get into his Range Rover.
But that incident reportedly didn’t prompt his suspension. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported at the time that Breeland was in the process of appealing the four-game ban for a substance-abuse policy violation prior his arrest.
The nature of the violation isn’t clear. But Breeland has now publicly acknowledged it.
Breeland to miss key games against AFC rivals
Breeland started 15 games for the Chiefs last season, recording two interceptions, eight passes defended and and two fumble recoveries, one that he returned for a touchdown. He also intercepted Jimmy Garoppolo in Kansas City’s Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Breeland will miss Kansas City’s games against the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.
