Chicago hockey player uses stick for White Sox ‘first pitch’ (Video)

The Chicago Steel of the USHL are your 2017 Clark Cup champions, and you know what that means: Massive celebrations and huge parades and a worldwide tour of the trophy.

Or, failing that, attending a Chicago White Sox game.

It was “Chicago Steel Night” on Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field, where members of the team were introduced and captain Marc Johnstone partook in one of our favorite cross-sport honors: The wrist shot-as-Ceremonial First Pitch!

Here’s New Jersey’s own Johnstone, whipping a wrister for a strike:

It’s not the first time we’ve seen this trick. Please recall then-Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher doing the same “first pitch” wrister at a Tampa Bay Rays game back in 2012.

Congrats to the Steel and to Johnstone, who would be at least the No. 3 starter on the Sox if he were allowed to pitch with a hockey stick. Without one, he’s probably still be better than Mike Pelfrey.
