Baseball legend and one of the most influential baseball players in our country's history, jose bautista joins us now with more on what? Well what he makes of the jays season so far and what he's been up to in retirement as well. Good morning jose. >> Good morning ross, how are you? >> I'm great. Let's start off with the jays season. I'm sure you've been keeping track. We have to ask you what advice would you give to the players on the team? Offense has struggled. Obviously they need joey bats. What are we going to do? >> I mean, I wish I could still do it, no. Listen, this is a very talented roster. There's definitely been so some ups and downs, no doubt about it. But they have the group to do it. They have to be resilient. They have to, stay healthy and then just grind through it, as they win the other teams were loose, so, hopefully they just got a sneak into the playoffs and see what happens after. But they have plenty of time to do that. So, I have very, very much trust and confidence in this group. >> Well, we got to get you in the clubhouse there, jose, because, you know, obviously the confidence is low. There's talk that there may be change in management at some point, if not this season, after the season, have you considered, perhaps, coaching or returning to the majors in that capacity, or maybe the front office? Is that something you've thought about? >> Yeah, definitely thought about it. Listen, coaching and the travelling that comes with it, maybe, a little tough to sell to my wife at this moment, given the fact we have four little ones still. But listen, anytime I can help the blue jays in any way, shape or form, the organization has done everything for me. So I can't help but try to figure out how. So I'll definitely something that I consider, if that opportunity ever comes about. >> Well, that is exciting news to hear from blue jays fans. It would be great to have you back with the team in some way. I just want to go back a little bit and talk a little bit about your career, because you're one of the greatest blue jays players of all time. From 2010 to 2015, you hit more home runs than any other player in the majors, but it didn't happen overnight. You were with several teams before you were traded to the jays. I just want to ask you, what do you think it was? What what helped you persevere and reach such a high level in the sport, just a combination of factors. Just going to a place where, you know, they believed in me, they put me in a position to succeed. You know, I made some tweaks and changes to my hitting approach. My mechanics and everything just kind of came together at once. So, it was a great five year run, I had a great career. I enjoyed thoroughly, and my ten year stay in toronto is, something that I'll never forget. To this day, I call toronto my second home. Everybody knows that. So every time I come back, everybody makes me feel like a king. So I truly appreciate it. And, I love the fans as much as they love me back, so, I you know, toronto is my home. >> Well, what a return it was last summer you joined the blue jays level of excellence in an emotional ceremony. Tell us how you feel now that you've had some time to think about that. And will you be returning to toronto in some capacity this summer? Will you be returning to the city, yes. Listen, I feel still great and honored and humbled about that ceremony that happened last year, just to even know that I can look up there any time I come back and see my name in the rafters. It's a huge

honor. Right. So it was a great show of, gratitude, from from the fans and the organization to me. And it's reciprocated. So it was a great day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And yes, I have been back to toronto a couple times already this year, and I'm planning on coming back, a couple more hopefully. Even sooner than people think, I think the jays have a couple of things they want to, to, surprise fans with, very, very soon. And hopefully I'm part of that as well. >> Well, it's been a season of many lows this year, so that'll be great to have you back in the city. And for fans to be able to see that, and for you, I guess you haven't seen the renovated rogers center just yet. Have you seen the new field lines? And so on? >> I have not, so I'm looking forward to that, it's, it's going to be, I've seen videos. I've seen, on the inside two for the clubhouse. The guys are being spoiled with a lot of, great renovations in the inside, but, I saw the outfield last year, so the fans I know were enjoying that. And I'll get to see the rest, hopefully soon. Okay >> Well, we've only got a short amount of time left. About 45 seconds here, but I want to also mention you've partnered with a canadian owned food chain, mary brown's chicken, which is also the official chicken restaurant of the toronto blue jays. Tell us about that. >> It's a great partnership. Listen, I think, anytime I have the opportunity even to consider partnering with great canadian companies, I have to consider it right. And this one was no different. I got to know those folks, earlier this year, and I got to visit a few of their restaurants, and, I really like what they do. I like how they prepare their product, their their process, how they take care of their customer and how they go above and beyond to try to make, you know, every single one of their product as healthy, as healthy as possible. And they like to feed canadians. So I can't help it. But, try to work with companies that want to work with me and the jays and have great impact in canadian communities. And mary brown's is no different. So I'm very happy to be a part of the mary brand's family, and hopefully we can cause some great community impact moving forward. >> Well, great jose, you've done so much for canadian baseball as well, and we all thank you very much for those moments you've given us, and hoping to see you back in the city at some point. >> From "global-peterborough. This is "global news" morning. >> Good morning. Thank you for joining us. The umbrella on standby for a day full of clouds and showers. Will have all of the details in your full forecast. Just ahead. Meanwhile, we begin with peterborough's walk to make cystic fibrosis history. The annual event supports those living with the life threatening disease. Germain-ma has more on how the fundraiser is having an impact. >> Around nicholls-oval, more than 100 people are stepping forward with hopes of finding a cure for cystic fibrosis, the life threatening genetic disorder damages multiple organs. It's estimated more than 4400 canadians have cf because cystic fibrosis is a rare disease, it doesn't get the attention that some of the other diseases get. >> So this walk is now because we have walks like this. It does bring awareness, and the awareness brings the money, the walk to make cystic fibrosis history not only raises funds for medical research, it supports people living with the disease. >> It's like seven year old penny diagnosed right after birth. Her mom, stephanie mcglynn, manages her care. >> She takes about 40 pills a day, and she does about an hour of breathing treatments before school and after school every time, you know, we go to nana's for the weekend, which we do quite a bit. I have to make sure I remember those medications that she needs to live, you know , and yesterday I forgot one. So I had to drive back, you know, back home an hour and back again. >> Penny is very aware of the importance of the medication. >> The scariest part is when my seven year old asks me when she's going to die, when cf is going to kill her, but terry foster is on a mission to keep that from happening. >> He's been doing the walk for 39 years, never missed an event even when he had cancer decades earlier. A child in his family passed away from cf, complications. >> I've always felt quite helpless because I love kids. >> Foster now covers his shirt and the names of people diagnosed with cf. He's personally raised more than $220,000 over the years. >> I enjoy the whole idea that I am actually helping somebody. They like every dollar I raise, helps somebody to live longer. Then that's good. I'm doing a good thing. >> The walk also shows that those living with cf, who often feel isolated are not alone. The goal is to raise $33,000 locally this year. Donations are being accepted online at walk cystic fibrosis, ca until the end of june. Germain-ma "global news" a niagara man has been arrested in connection with a shooting last fall and an assault earlier in the year in peterborough. >> Police say. On november 24th, a 28 year old man with a gunshot wound and other injuries was dropped off at prhc and later taken to a toronto area hospital. Later that same day, a second 28 year old man was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries. Police say one person was arrested at a home in the area of george and perry streets. Then on january 9th, police responded to a call of a man with a serious head injury. After a four month investigation, a 25 year old man was arrested at a home in thorold. He was held in custody. Red heels were back in the downtown on friday. The ywca walk a mile in their shoes, made a return for the first time since the pandemic. The fundraising event supports gender based violence survivors. Germain-ma has the story. >> Dressed in the colour of strength and courage, about 100 people are walking through peterborough downtown. In previous years, this event was called walk a mile in her shoes. An altered name reflects the higher rates of violence that women, girls and gender diverse people face. An increasingly urgent issue since the event was last held five years ago, the stats rose and they've never gone down. >> Women want to leave relationships. We have a housing crisis, rents had risen before the pandemic. >> More than 4 in 10 women reported experiencing some form of intimate partner violence in their lifetime, according to statistics canada. And last december, the peterborough domestic abuse network found local gender based violence stats are slightly above national and provincial averages, including in rural areas. >> They're in isolated situations and they end up having nowhere to go, and it can be a very scary proposition. >> Indigenous women also continue to be at greater risk, murdered and missing indigenous women and girls. >> There's 231 calls for justice. Where are they at? What's being done? >> Walk a mile, raises money for the ywca s journey of care, encompassing each of the organization's programs and services from its shelter to court support, counseling to financial and housing assistance. >> Wherever a woman is and
