The Cheez-It Bowl is college football's latest gloriously named bowl game

The wacky world of college football bowl game sponsorship has provided us with some glorious food-themed names over the years. From the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl to the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, several title sponsors have given fans the munchies at the mere thought of the literal translation.

But on Monday, the Cactus Bowl’s newest title sponsor topped them all: Behold, the Cheez-It Bowl:

For those unfortunate enough – or fortunate enough, depending on your perspective – to never have been exposed to a Cheez-It, it’s an orange-fake-cheesy snack food that is probably terribly unhealthy but definitely addictively yummy. It’s the cracker pictured – sort of – in the logo above.

No word yet whether the trophy will be an Orange Bowl-esque bowl – or box – of Cheez-Its. Or whether they’ll be available in unlimited quantities to players on sidelines. Or …

“A new era of college football excitement begins today,” a not-humorous-enough news release trumpeted. But only if they take one of those suggestions.

The game will pit a Big 12 team vs. a Pac-12 team on Wednesday, Dec. 26 at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The game has previously been known as the Copper Bowl, the Domino’s Pizza Copper Bowl, the Weiser Lock Copper Bowl, the Insight.com Bowl, the Insight Bowl, the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, the TicketCity Cactus Bowl and the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl.

Now that they’ve gone down the Cheez-It route, perhaps an even more delectable snack or food item could be next?
