Cheering on the Royals at the home opener? How to get tickets, what’s allowed at The K

Opening day is less than a week away, and Kauffman Stadium’s iconic fountains are turning 50 years old this season.

In addition to the fountain celebration, the Royals are under new management.

The Royals, who had a 65-97 record last year, will open their first season with Matt Quatraro as manager. He replaced Mike Matheny in the offseason.

This will also be the first opening day with J.J. Picollo as general manager. He took over for Dayton Moore, who was fired in September.

Kansas City hosts the Minnesota Twins at 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, and if you’re heading to Kauffman Stadium to watch Zack Greinke, Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez and the rest of the boys in Royal blue, here’s what you need to know.

HOW TO GET TICKETS

Single-game tickets, including opening day, are available through the Royals’ official website or the MLB Ballpark app. You can find the schedule for the regular season here. Games highlighted in blue are home games.

There are special deals for ticket prices, such as the team’s Price Chop Mondays promotion, where prices will be as low as $10.

Ticket prices will vary depending on the day, who the Royals are playing and what the team’s record is. For instance, tickets start at $29 for opening day on Thursday, while tickets are as low as $10 for the team’s April 3 game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

WHAT’S THE BAG POLICY?

Each fan is allowed to carry one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag. The bag can’t be any larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches. Backpacks are not allowed.

Fans can also carry a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag — a Ziploc bag or something similar — and a small clutch bag no larger than 9 inches by 5 inches, which is subject to search. The clutch bag doesn’t have to be clear.

Exceptions can be made for medical reasons or diaper bags that are with infants and toddlers.

FOOD AND DRINKS

You aren’t allowed to bring hard-sided coolers, alcohol or non-clear liquid containers — including reusable water bottles — inside Kauffman Stadium. You can bring food that resembles individual portions in a clear, plastic bag that’s no larger than one gallon. You can also bring in unopened plastic water bottles that are one liter or smaller.

Soft-sided single juice, milk containers or ADA-required liquids may be allowed in as well. Sports drinks, such as Gatorade, are also allowed as long as they are unopened and less than a liter.

WHAT ELSE ISN’T ALLOWED?

The following items are prohibited inside Kauffman Stadium at all times:

• Aerosol cans

• Banners or flags with sticks in them

• Baseball bats

• Beach balls and other inflatable items

• Bullhorns and other noisemakers that are deemed unacceptable by Kauffman Stadium staff, like cowbells

• Brooms that are taller than four feet

• Cameras with lenses that are larger than 12 inches

• Items that could be projectiles, such as toys

• Lasers and laser pens

• Pets or other animals that aren’t there for service purposes

• Unmanned aerial vehicles

• Weapons and fireworks—this includes all guns and knives

• Wrapped presents

Stadium staff will ask you to put these items back in your car or throw them away. Restrictions can change at any time.
