Celebrity Breakups 2023: Stars Who Split up This Year

Cardi B and Offset

A week after unfollowing each other on Instagram, Cardi B confirmed her breakup from Offset. During a December livestream, the rapper told fans that she’s been “single for a minute now” and was waiting for the perfect moment to speak on it.

“I don’t know if you guys have been getting clues from me, from my Lives, or from my Stories, when I put some certain music, or find my unfollowings,” Cardi B explained to fans, in part. “I wanna start 2024 like, fresh, open. I don’t know, I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah, I’m excited.”

The former couple got married in 2017 and share two children: five-year-old Kulture and two-year-old Wave.

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert

In late November, TMZ reported that Teyana Taylor had secretly filed for divorce from Iman Shumpert eight months before announcing their split in September. Days after the story broke, Taylor took to Instagram to slam tabloids for sharing details and statements “taken from private court documents that were leaked to the public.”

"It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see,” she wrote in an Instagram story on November 24, per People. She continued, “Protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children I will continue to do so.”

Taylor first announced her split from the former NBA player in September after seven years of marriage and two children. “Iman and I are separated and have been for a while,” the singer and actor wrote on Instagram at the time. “To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”

She continued, “Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT…. The only reason I’m even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it’s unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provided some clarity for y’all.”

Harris, 37, filed for divorce from Krieger, 39, in the state of Florida on September 19, People reports.

Krieger announced her retirement from the National Women’s Soccer League exclusively in Glamour earlier this year. At the time she discussed the difficulty of being a mom while she was still a full-time player. “For [my wife Ashlyn Harris] and I, it’s been extremely difficult,” she said of the working mom life, but “I do think having more moms in the league encourages everyone to feel like they can be themselves and live their authentic life however they choose.”

Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes

According to People, Sophia Bush has filed for divorce from her husband Grant Hughes after 13 months of marriage. “Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service,” a source told the publication on August 4. “They continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends.”

Bush and Hughes wed at the City County Clerk’s Office in Tulsa back in June 2022. The 41-year-old actor was briefly married to her One Tree Hill costar Chad Michael Murray for five months in 2005.

People also reports that Bush shared a tribute to Hughes just seven weeks before filing for divorce, in honor of their one-year wedding anniversary. However, the post appears to have been removed from her feed. “Today marks 365 days of calling you ‘husband,’” she allegedly captioned a wedding photo. “Best decision of my life. It still feels just like this. Ecstatic. Running toward the future, grinning and laughing, together. I love you, my favorite. Happy Anniversary. 🤍”

Billie Eilish, 21, and Jesse Rutherford, 31, have called it quits after less than a year of dating.

According to a statement from Eilish’s rep shared with People, the two “remain good friends” after splitting amicably. “All cheating rumors are false,” the statement reads. “Both are currently single.” The couple was last spotted together at Coachella in April; around the same time, Eilish shared a PDA pic on Instagram.

The couple first sparked dating rumors in October 2022 after they were seen exiting a haunted house in Los Angeles holding hands. Now here’s one celebrity breakup that we never saw coming. People reports that Jeremy Allen White’s wife, Addison Timlin, filed for divorce on May 11. The two have been married for over three years, but they were together for much longer than that and share two kids.

After winning a Golden Globe for his role in The Bear—in which White made the phrase “yes, chef” sound like dirty talk—the actor thanked Timlin in an emotional acceptance speech. “Addison Timlin, I love you deep in my bones, thank you for all that you do, thank you for everything that you’ve done,” he said on stage.

According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the “Bad at Love” singer is requesting full physical custody of the child but intends to share legal custody with Aydin and facilitate “reasonable” visitation. Glen Powell and Gigi Paris

Glen Powell and girlfriend Gigi Paris have broken up, a source has exclusively confirmed to People on April 26. Apparently, the split happened weeks ago in large part because Paris was “never happy” dating long-distance to accommodate Powell’s filming schedule. Reportedly, the two have been on the rocks since the release of Top Gun, in which Powell stars.

Paris hinted at the news via cryptic Instagram caption shortly after unfollowing Powell’s Anyone but You costar Sydney Sweeney. “Know your worth & onto the next,” the model wrote.

Sweeney is still engaged to her boyfriend of five years, Jonathan Davino. But unfounded rumors of an off-screen fling with Powell are running rampant following a series of flirty promotional appearances for their forthcoming rom-com.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn

Though the timeline is a little murky, news of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's split is first reported on April 8. After six years together, People reports that the 32-year-old actor “struggled” with Swift’s level of fame, while the 33-year-old pop star “didn’t see them working out in the long run.” Still, the source adds, “[Taylor] doesn’t have anything bad to say about Joe.”
