One of the scariest aspects of New York Islanders forward Casey Cizikas getting sliced on the arm by a skate Tuesday night was the speed of it all: The literal sprint from the Islanders bench to the locker room for Cizikas and the trainer to treat his wound.

We know the gravity of these situations. To see that level of concern just added to it.

Just 1:25 into the Islanders’ game against the Washington Capitals, Cizikas fell to the ice during a battle with Nicklas Backstrom but continued to play the puck. But teammate Anders Lee crashed into Backstrom along the boards and, in the process, a skate cut across Cizikas’s arm.

He rushed to the locker room with a towel pressed on it.

Of course, this being hockey, Cizikas returned to the game at 12:02 and played three more shifts in the first period.
